To enable me to assist Timor-Leste to translate its (natural resources) wealth to bring about sustained development and can also bring opportunities to improve the competitiveness of tradable sectors and social development, which in turn lead to poverty reduction and equal income distribution.

My interest in economics studies and my understanding that Timor-Leste still lacks of people with qualified skills and knowledge in the area of natural resources

Masters in Economic of Natural Resources as major field of study with special interest in oil, gas and mineral

4.      Kind of program I expect to undertake

I expect that I would study about minerals, oil and gas extraction models and how these resources affect the policy making and vice versa, such as regulation of pollution, waste management, resource exhaustibility, sustainability, environmental policy and energy planning. The objective of this study is for me to better understand the relationship between policy making and the economic model of natural resources

I am hoping that the course will also enable me to examine the models of classical and modern economics to explain the transition of developing economies such as Timor-Leste into modern economic growth, and to see the relevance of these models to income distribution, poverty reduction, human development outcomes, and market and non-market valuation

5.      How my study plan fits in with my previous training or courses

My undergraduate study was in economics. My application is also to study Economics

6.      How my study plan fits in with my future objectives

Future plan is to work with Ministry of Petroleum to assist the alignment of the country’s macroeconomic policy so that Timor-Leste will not fall on the trap that is called Dutch Disease.
